Newsflash - Aliens, mummies and dinosaurs invade Redoubt Fortress!

By Neil

Our first three films of the season are done and dusted. We have been terrorised by face sucking aliens, pursued by mummies and stalked by dinosaurs. All in the name of entertainment... Thank heavens for popcorn!

Mummies on guard

These guys above us at least helped out with some guard duty, before preparing to startle our audience. They started their careers as shop dummies and were used in the museum for various functions before getting their break and re-training as mummies.

Despite the ominous groaning noises that greeted the audience at the door to Casemate 20; the classic Hammer Horror - 'The Mummy' (1959), went off without a hitch. For anyone looking to re-create these props, fabric dust-sheets cut into strips are invaluable for wrapping mummies and mummy jars. Meanwhile in a galaxy not too far away an alien outpost was taking shape.

These alien creations graced our cafe - The Outpost, on the night we screened 'Alien' (1979). The Alien head is a polystyrene block base with various plumbing pipes, cake tubs and of course some silicone seal slime. No cafe staff were harmed in the making of this scene. Below our intrepid Curator - Sarah makes her escape through the hatch at Casemate 20.

One of our Dinosaurs is Missing (1975) included face-painting and fossil making. There were also some interesting tracks discovered in the parade ground.

Here are some of the great creations made by our budding palaeontologists.

We have had a lot of fun making and using our first round of props, they have evolved over the last few months...

Our audiences were all great and got in the spirit of things! If you fancy dressing up for our next film, it's the 'Battle of Britain' (1969) and we will be screening it on Friday 12th August to coincide with Airbourne - Eastbourne's free airshow.

I will leave you with this rather disturbing photo. Time to turn out the lights and make a run for it...
