The Final Countdown

by Victoria

This week at The Redoubt is our final week to prepare for the museum opening again on Monday 21st for the 2016 season. Consequently, this week it is all hands on deck to ensure the museum and the collections are fully ready for when our first visitors of the season arrive – so we’ve been keeping very busy!

Whilst the parade ground looks relatively calm, it's all going on behind-the-scenes

With the vital help of our faithful volunteers, we have finished off cleaning every inch of the museum that we can, and considering the size of The Redoubt I’m sure you can imagine that is no easy task! The Redoubt’s shop has also had a makeover for this year, so we have been making sure it is full of our visitor’s favourite stock, as well as some exciting, new gifts and souvenirs.

Abbie at The Outpost Café has been busy preparing the essential teas, coffees and delicious food and our brilliant Casemate Guides have been refreshing their knowledge ready to entertain visitors with their daily tours.

The collections team have been checking over the object displays and finalising our new exhibitions at both The Redoubt and the neighbouring Pavilion. This year visitors can learn about Eastbourne in The Bronze Age, experience stories of First World War soldiers and uncover more secrets of the fortress, as well as the opportunity to enjoy a range of talks, films and events - there's something for everyone!

So whilst we finish off behind-the-scenes getting ready for our visitors, don't forget we open next Monday at 10:00am and we look forward to welcoming you to The Redoubt!
